Year 1 Week 2 World Book Day Week

 


 




This week we have been celebrating World Book Day Week. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of World Book Day. On Monday, the children took part in the Live with Matilda & Friends


On Tuesday, the children took part in the Steve Anthony webinar and completed One Book For All activities.


On Wednesday, we had the We are Readers Class Swap.





World Book Day

Apricot Class 

Apricot had a great day dressed up as their favourite book characters. 



Beech Class



We had a fantastic day on Thursday completing World Book Day tasks, creating a class poem and dressing up as our favourite characters from our favourite stories. 


Walnut Class




Literacy

This week, we started our new story, The Queen’s Handbag.The children wrote predictions based on the story and had to predict where the swan would go next. Afterwards, we looked at London Landmarks using the iPads for research.



Next week, Year 1 will be starting the story The Snail and the Whale. They will be completing a fact file about snails and writing a detailed list about how they would keep a snail as a pet.

The children have been recognising, comparing and ordering numbers within 50.

Science

In Science, this week, the children were researching the similarities and differences between amphibians and fish. The children worked in groups to answer questions about each species and created group posters. 




 




Apricot Class Forest School


We made the most of the rain and mud today. Some mud painting, lots of splashing and walking in puddles. Mixing, pouring, adding ingredients led to potions made and medicines completed. Digging for worms, mud kitchen and more.
