Rowan Class - Forest school

 

Rowan class had their final forest school session this morning. We did a carousel and the children moved around all the activities. We used the sun as our fire as it melted chocolate. Then the children selected fruit and a marshmallow to dip in the chocolate. There were drinks with ice to help us cool down and some time to explore (in the shade) with activities. Then we did some maypole dancing and made own own mini maypoles to take home. We finished off with some water fun using the tarp and shaking the water on top to create a shower. It has been a fun few weeks, well done everyone

Forest school - Rowan Class

 

There was lots of excitement as Rowan class had their fire today. We talked about how we start a fire with fuel, heat abs oxygen and practiced the respect position for safety. Everyone had the opportunity to toast a marshmallow over the fire and enjoy it in a brioche bun with a hot chocolate. There was time to look at the new trees planted on site and everyone moved around them carefully so they can grow big and strong. Some children explored the forest school area with the magnify glasses, binoculars and compasses while others made pine cone decorations to take home. It was a lovely final session for Rowan class. There will be back at forest school in the summer.

This morning Rowan class spent some time thinking of different ways we can focus on the details that we sometimes miss when we are rushing about. We played ‘you’re only safe if….’ This included looking for items the size of our thumb nail and and our hand, plus lots of running to keep us warm. 

We then looked closely at Elder sticks and noticed the soft pith in the middle. We learnt how to remove this with a tent peg an make the elder into a bead. The beads were then used for various creations including bracelets, snakes, caterpillars and our own creations. Some children spent time cloud watching, while others listened to the sounds around them wearing a blindfold to focus on the sound. There was also time for some herb identification using just our sense of smell. It was a busy morning.
