E for Excellence 



Kiara, in Apricot, for writing a brilliant story about a witch who lived in a spooky, spooky house. Well done for using adjectives to make your story such an exciting read Kiara, great work!




Teddy, in Beech, for his hard work in class. Teddy has been working hard on his Maths, partitioning numbers up to 20. He has been using a number line and numicon to help him show his understanding. 




Joshua, in Walnut, for consistently working hard in every subject. Joshua is a kind member of the class and a good friend to everyone.

Ibukun, in Apricot, for writing an exciting story about a treasure hunt in a mysterious land. Ibkun used her imagination to write a thrilling story, well done Ibukun!





Abdul-Aziz, in Beech, for his wonderful story this week. Abdul-Aziz made up a fantastic story and was able to tell it to his class it. He then wrote it down independently. Super job, Abdul-Aziz!



Veer, in Walnut, for always producing writing to a high standard. Veer thinks about his writing and always has good ideas.






Resilience 

Freddie, in Apricot, for persevering with his story writing, even though he was finding it challenging to apply his sounds. Brilliant work Freddie!





Reflectiveness

Jack, in Apricot, for taking time to think of his story and write his sentences. Well done on your hard work Jack!





James, in Walnut, for adapting his learning when the task gets tough. James thinks about how he can improve what he is doing, and implements it. 

Jessica, in Walnut, for working hard in literacy, adapting her story book to include adjectives.

Lilly, in Walnut, for working well with others outside to make the plank of wood 

travel down the hill. Lily worked as part of a team, contributing her ideas with others.  





Aayan, in Beech, for working on his expression. Ayaan listened to feedback about the story he created and was able to reread it using a ‘story teller’ voice.

Year 2 Spellings

 

Year 2 Spellings - W/C 24.05.21

As we are using this last week of half term to assess the children's progress in year 2 we will not be doing our usual spelling test on Friday. Instead we have sent home the Key Words to learn in Year 2 that often come up on the Year 2 Spelling Paper. Please pick some your child is finding challenging and focus on spelling these this week. 

Please continue to encourage the children to read for at least 15/20 minutes every evening and play on Rock Star times tables every night for 15 minutes.

Year 1's Learning in Week 5

                                                                    Year One's Learning

Take a look at what Year One have been learning this week...

Literacy

In Literacy this week, the children have become storytellers. They have been making up their own stories and telling them to their teachers. Then, each class has acted out the children's stories. The children have loved stepping into character and acting out their own and their friends' stories. The children have also created story maps of their stories, drawing pictures and writing descriptive sentences for each part of their story. 




Next week in Literacy we will be continue to work on our own stories. The children will narrate their own stories to their peers in small groups, taking the chance to work on their expression and storytelling skills. They will also be writing their story down, in their own story book, remembering to use adjectives to make their story interesting!

Maths
In Maths this week, we have been looking at halving shapes. The children loved these tasked as it allowed them to get creative by drawing and cutting up shapes. Some of the children even managed to grasp the concept of quarters, by having their shapes and halving it again! 




Next week in maths, we will be looking at partitioning again and also adding ten to a number by using the hundred square. A lot of our focus will be on generating a 2 digit number and fining different ways to represent how many tens are in a number and how many ones.

Science 

We had a super science lesson this week focusing on our senses. Tak a look at the pictures below. can you work out what we were doing? 







Next week in Science, we are going to be describe and compare the structure of a variety of common animals. We we look at the features and discuss why certain animals have these. We will be thinking about how it helps them everyday.

History 

We had a very interesting History lesson this week learning about transport in Tudor times. The children were able to see how transport has changed over the years. 


Next week we will be looking at Tudor houses. We will be looking at the different features of a Tudor house and comparing them to the houses we live in today. We will then use a range of materials to create our own Tudor houses.

Outside

We love Spring Time in Year One. It brings new sights, smells and sounds! The children have had lots of fun making nest, exploring shadows and making assort courses.

Stefania for a wonderful helicopter story. Stefania used her imagination and her story contained lots of different adjectives to create a wonderful story. 




Evie for her brilliant work in Maths this week. Evie persevered and managed to fill in all the missing numbers on the number tracks, using her 100 square confidently to count backwards and forwards. Fantastic work Evie!



 



Hope, for her wonderful story she told Mr Cardwell. Hope’s story was full of interesting adjectives. She thought carefully about what she wanted to write about and made sure her story had a strong beginning and a clear end.









Star Writer 


Roman, for his fantastic effort making up his own story and creating a story map for it. Roman used his imagination to make up a brilliant story and has been particularly working on his handwriting, well done Roman!




Paige, for using her independent time to writes letters and labels her pictures. Paige applies her set 2 and 3 sounds in her writing, Paige uses capital letters, full stops and adjectives in her writing. Super work Paige!




Noah, for his amazing story, all about a little nut that rolled down the hill. It was quite a journey for the little nut and Noah took pride in reading it to the class. 










Reciprocity -Eesa for alway persevering with all his learning tasks, he keeps on going and produces very good work. Well done Eesa!




Reflective Ayaan for using his senses to work out what the items were in science this week. 




Resilience - Louis, for his hard work in Maths, never giving up!

Reciprocity- Sophie for being a wonderful friend to everyone, especially our new child who joined our class recently.




Resilience- Eason for the way he has embraced learning to tell the time. Eason has been on clock watch, letting the class know when it is o’clock, half past and his favourite… 10 to!!

Year 1 mythical creatures

 

Year 1 Mythical Creatures

What a fantastic effort from all of our children (and parents!) We had such a fun day and the children loved seeing each other's costumes. 






Best Dressed in Beech 
George had a wonderful homemade costume! He was a magical dragon. His cloak was made up of multicoloured  felt scaled!

Abdulahad was a brave and playful Peter pan!

A gorgeous fairy mermaid with amazing purple hair and lips to match!
