Week 3's Learning in Year 1

This Week's Learning in Year 1

 Literacy

This week in Literacy, we have been writing more about looking after our environment and also making up our own stories. The children have created their own story and have acted out the stories as a class. They have really enjoyed stepping into characters and have shown great understanding of what makes a good story. Next week the children will be looking at The World and creating a pop up booklet about how we can look after it.

Maths

This week in Maths we have been continuing to look at arrays and multiplication. We have been creating arrays with objects and drawing them in our books. We are getting used to writing the problems as repeated addition and as a multiplication. See example below.

Next we will be continuing to work with arrays to consolidate our knowledge. We will also begin looking at the time. In Year 1 we need to learn to recognize O'clock and half past on the clock.

Science

This week in Science we have been thinking back to when the ducks visited us in school. We have discussed the features of the ducks (their beaks, feathers, wings) and what they need to survive. The children have also spotted many birds in the environment and tried to identify them. In addition, the children have been continuing to look after the variety of plants that we are growing in Year 1. From beansprouts to sunflowers, the children are excited to see the plants growing and changing.

Many thanks

The Year One Team
