Thank you so much for all the well wishes and Good luck messages for my new journey. Year 1 - What we have been learning

 

Another busy week in Year 1 ( even though it was only 3 days) which has been full of learning and Christmas activities. The children have completed Read write inc and math assessments this week and worked tremendously hard to complete these. 

Maths

After our snow storm, the children were excited to be back and learn about shape at school. The children have been recalling the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes. They also completed Math assessments which all the children tried really hard with. 

Christmas Crafts

This week, we have been getting super excited about Christmas. The children have been working hard on different crafts as well as leading their own learning in the continuous provision. 

Winter Reading Festival

The children took part in this year's Winter Reading Festival at school. The children enjoyed being read to by their friends from KS2. 

Christmas Dinner

The lovely Year 1 children had a traditional Christmas Dinner today and they thoroughly enjoyed the scrumptious meals. They were full of smiles as they tucked into delicious dinners!

16.12.2022 - Wonderful Learning in Year 2

 

It was a short week but still it was a wonderful week full of great learning and fun. Here are some of the highlights of our week! 

Literacy & RE

In Literacy this week, the children have written a letter to Santa. They have explained to Santa how they have been good this year by including appropriate reasons. The children have also included a wish list for Christmas in their letters. Along with this, in RE, the children have learnt about the Christmas story, The Nativity. They completed a story map and re-told the story of the Nativity. 

Here are a few examples of the sentences that some of the children in yr 2 have written. 

“I have been a wonderful boy this year because I have been kind and helpful to others.” - Ryan, Pine. 

“I have been a polite girl this year because I have helped others in and outside of the classroom.”- Chloe, Rowan. 

“I have been a good boy because I helped my mum put up the Christmas tree.”- Joseph, Mulberry. 

Construction

During our choice activities, some children explored the construction area and created some imaginative, creative buildings. It was really fascinating to see children's minds grow as they explored how to make strong, tall or functional buildings.

09/12/2022-Wonderful learning in Yr 2

 

What a wonderful week we have had, full of great learning and fun. Here are some of the highlights of our week! 

Literacy 

In Literacy this week, the children have learnt about 2a sentences and have used this to describe nouns. 2a sentences involve two adjectives that are used to describe a noun for example, ‘the snowman is wearing a sparkly, red scarf.’

Here are a few examples of the sentences that some of the children in yr 2 have written. 

“The adorable, white sheep made the child smile.” - Aariz, Mulberry. 

“The frosty, white snowman stood in the freezing, cold snow.”- Amaira, Rowan. 

“The snowman was wearing shiny, multi-coloured gloves.”- Aadya, Pine. 

Maths 

In Maths this week, children have continued to develop their addition and subtraction skills. They have learned how to add three 1-digit numbers together. The children have ensured that they have spotted the number bond to 10 first and then added the remaining number. Children continued to use concrete and pictorial resources to support their learning. 

Science

Year 2 has started a new topic in Science which is Living things. The children are learning to identify and name a variety of plants and animals in their habitats and they are beginning to understand that most living things live in habitats they are suited to. This week we investigated micro-habitats around our school. Luckily we have some amazing new facilities which made this a very fun experience as our playground now features bug hotels, grassy areas and even a small pond! As part of their task, children were able to describe the habitat and identify some bugs and insects that might live there. Many children spotted spiders, ants and mosquitoes in the micro habitats that were found. Well done everybody. 

 

Wonderful Learning in Yr 2- 02.12.2022

 

What a wonderful week we have had, full of great learning and fun. Here are some of the highlights of our week! 

Literacy 

In Literacy this week, children have written a newspaper report on The Great Fire of London. They have focused on including facts and figures in their reports. This included gathering evidence from Samuel Pepys’ diary using other books and resources to gather statistical facts. Children used their best reporter voice to articulate sentences and then have transferred it into their writing.

Maths 

In Maths this week, children have continued to develop their addition and subtraction skills further by learning number bonds within and over 100 and adding and subtracting in 1s. Children used pictorial and concrete resources to solve fluency and reasoning problems when covering these two objectives. 

Choosing time

During choosing time, children in Year 2 have explored different resources to make wonderful creations. They have engaged in meaningful conversation outside of the classroom. It has been wonderful to see children creating boats, cars, submarines and hotels during their choosing time. They have also shown evidence of counting in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s using resources in and outside of the classroom. We are looking forward to seeing their creative minds grow further. 

Science

Year 2 has started a new topic in Science which is Living things. As part of our learning, we went to explore things that are  alive, dead or have never been alive. This could have been a leaf, tree, grass, plastic, bugs, insects, birds and many other objects. Children were also able to state reasons why things might be alive or dead. Some children said that if things are moving or breathing then they are alive. Others said that once something has fallen off a tree, turns brown or changes colour or looks fragile, it has died. Well done everyone.
