Attendance Support

Good morning,

Do you fancy a coffee or tea and a chat in a relaxed non-judgemental environment? These will be fortnightly from 8:50-9:30 as a drop-in for parents/carers and will be a good opportunity to meet with other parents/carers who are dealing with similar issues in a secure space.

Mulberry Class Forest School

This half term Mulberry Class will be participating in Forest School sessions.  These sessions will take place on Friday mornings.  The first session will be on Friday 10th November.  These sessions are led by Miss Float (Jill Jungle Owl) and Alison Shorter (Alison Ant).  Your child will bring home a leaflet that explains/reminds you of what Forest School is all about.

The children in Year 2 are already familiar with Forest School, as they participated in two half term blocks of sessions in Year 1.

When participating in these sessions (whatever the weather), the children are required to wear tracksuit/jogging trousers and welly boots (with their school polo shirt and jumper).  These should be left in school to change into each week.  In wet/cold weather, the children will also need to bring a warm coat, a hat and gloves to wear.  The school will provide them with waterproofs to wear over the top of their clothing in extreme wet and cold weather.  Forest School sessions take place whatever the weather, so it is important the children are properly dressed, so that they can participate in and enjoy each session fully.

In preparation for our first session, please send into school for your child a pair of tracksuit/jogging trousers and a pair of welly boots, in a named carrier bag.

Many thanks for your continued support.  We are sure your children are going to be looking forward to having the opportunity to participate in Forest School again.

Year 2 - What we are learning!

Science

This week in Science we did our last lesson on materials! We spoke about all the fabulous things we have learnt about materials. We have come to know that materials are used for different purposes and some can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. We made tents using different materials and tested whether they were waterproof or not. We showed great resourcefulness and reciprocity when working in our groups. It was AMAZING!

Literacy

The children worked very hard to write their newspaper reports about the Great Fire of  London this week.  They used the appropriate features including the  5Ws (Who? Where? What? When? And Why?) and conjunctions to link their ideas. They included eye witness accounts and clearly explained why the fire spread quickly. Well done Year 2!

Maths

This week in maths the children focused on addition and subtraction across 1s and related facts. We used the information we have previously learnt to add numbers to 100! The children showed great resilience when completing challenges.

Forest School

We managed to light a fire with pine class today even though it was wet. We made toast and chose either jam or honey to go on top. We drank hot chocolate and sang songs around the fire. There was time to make conker spiders using palm drills and pipe cleaners. A fun session, well done everyone.

Year 1 - what we are learning

This last week of Autumn has been a busy time for the children. They have worked hard on completing small Maths assessments which helps teachers to notice any misconceptions in the children’s learning. They have also been busy with all the other learning that takes place each week.

Thank you all for a great start to Year 1. The children have worked hard over the 7 weeks and we look forward to all the learning that is yet to come. We hope that you all have a restful week! See you

Maths

This week in maths the children have been reviewing what they have been learning. We asked the children to work as independently as possible and they done a great job in completely the assessment.

Next term the children will be learning about Addition and Subtraction.

Black History Month
Children have been learning about Black History month. They looked at the achievements  of Jessica Ennis. Children discussed how she was able to win Gold medals by training and not giving up on her dream. The children designed pictures and completed a whole school dance which was lots of fun!

Literacy

Dear Diary,

This week I have been learning about how to write a diary entry using present tense and adjectives.

From Year 1

Children turned into the role of Beegu and were asked to write a Diary entry on how Beegu felt when she. Crashed landed and what did she see when she did. Year 1 were reminded to use Capital letters, fingers spaces and full stops when writing.

Science

How do you know it’s the summer? The last week of learning about Seasons this week and the children have been showing off their knowledge and understanding. We have been learning songs and completing nature walks to recognise the changes in the seasons. As the seasons change there will opportunities for children to observe winter and spring.
