Year 1- What we have been learning

We would like to Thank all the adults that came to our Stay and Learn lesson this week. We hope that you found it informative and helped you to understand how we teach literacy in Year 1. The children really enjoyed working with their adults and showing off all what they have learnt in such a short time.

What a fantastic start to Year 1!

Please continue to read and practice your child's spellings as much as possible.

Any enquires please speak to your class teacher or Email the Year 1 mailbox.

Maths

This week the children have been using mathematical language and symbols. These include 'Greater than, Less than and equal to'. The children completed the activities fantastically! To help the children remember the symbols we use the example that ' the crocodile always eats the biggest number'. The children enjoyed completing a practical lesson bu using lollipop stick to make the symbols and using the new vocabulary.

Literacy
What a week of writing! The children really enjoyed completing writing task with their adults. The children have been working hard on there adjectives, knowing and describing what Beegu is feeling, what she looks like and and how is body language is important to demonstrate different emotions.

PSHE
What makes a good friend? Year 1 children have been discussing what it means to be a good friend and how we can keep the friendships that are made. The children then wrote their ideas on  post it and stuck them to the friendship tree.

History

For the next 2 week the children are learning about Queens. Year 1 got very engaged  in learning about Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. We had great discussions across the year group about how long young the Queens were and how long they were Queens for, not forgetting to mention that we now  have a king!
