Barleylands Parent and Consent Form. Please click here

Please note, children will be unable to attend if a consent form has not been completed. Please click on the link above to complete the form. We are happy to help you complete the form at the end of the school day this week.

Literacy

This week we wrote a persuasive letter to our Cook asking for permission to use the school kitchen to bake our cakes for our Literary and DT unit of work, Scrum-diddly-umptious!

Next week, we are going to be going on our trip to Lidl to collect our ingredients but also baking cakes and decorating them. I’m sure that the children will try and save their grown ups a slice.

Maths

This week, the children have been practising partitioning tens and ones and finding one more and one less and also ten more and ten less.

Carter: ‘10 more than 93 is 103.’

Next week the children will be revisiting addition and subtraction and having the opportunity to purchase items using real money in a local shop.

Toy Shop Money

Coins Game

Computing

We have been continuing our  learning  about how to use the shape and line tools to recreate the work of an artist. The children had to make circles with the shape tools, using them effectively to recreate their own piece of work inspired by the famous artist Kandinsky.

Nikita: “I’m making circles here.”

RE

This week the children have been learning about Islam and what Muslims believe. They have had discussions about the Quran and how it is written in Arabic. The children have had the opportunity to write their names in Arabic which they all found very interesting. (And tricky!)

Library Trip

Apricot Class

Beech Class

Walnut Class

Thank you to all of our Parent helpers and especially the children. You were all amazing! We had a fantastic time going to our local library and meeting Viv, our Librarian. The children were able to find out about how they can join the library and listened to a story about dragons and libraries. Afterwards the children spent time reading some of the books and choosing books for our end of day reading session at school.

Walnut Class Forest School

Walnut class were super focused this morning developing the skill of hapa zoming as they made flags. We mainly found green leaves of various shapes and sizes but a few yellow and purple flowers too. There was time for tadpole watching and cloud gazing as we used our cloud gazers to try and identify which tour of clouds we could see today. There was some debate between cirrus and cirrostratus clouds but everyone agreed they were wispy and thin. Great concentration today from Walnut class.

Fun Friday

After working very hard throughout the week, the children enjoyed a play dough game outside. They exercised their creativity and made their play dough into different shapes!
