Year 1: What We Are Learning 

In maths we have been learning about number bonds to 10 using numicon to support our understanding and calculations. We have noticed patterns and began to work systematically.

Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the cinema this week and their behaviour was truly outstanding from start to finish. Despite the poor weather, with heavy rain and even a few drops of snow, the children stayed positive, listened carefully and showed wonderful manners throughout the journey and during the film. We are incredibly proud of how well they represented our school!

In science this week the children have been exploring different materials and their properties. The children have also been grouping objects based on their material.

This week our literacy focus book has continued with: Traction Man, by Mini Grey.

Year 2 Create Time Capsules

 Year 2 Create Time Capsules 

This week, our Year 2 children completed one of their 48 Experiences at Broadford Primary School by creating their very own time capsule, which they will open again in Year 6. The children showed great resourcefulness as they gathered and prepared the special items to include — a letter to their future selves, a self-portrait, a class photo and pictures of some of the wonderful books they’ve enjoyed so far in Year 2.

 This activity also encouraged reflectiveness, as the children thought carefully about who they are now and what they might be like in four years time. 

We can’t wait for them to open their capsules in Year 6 and look back on how much they’ve grown and achieved!

This week we have had an amazing last week in Year 1. We started the week with the warmest weather ever….. and we have finished the term slightly cooler and ready to enjoy our break.

Year 1 Go Bonkers Week 6 Learning

 

Year 1 

It has been an  extremely hot week this week. Please ensure the children have a Sun hat, water bottle and Sun creams are applied each day. Thank you 🌞

Go Bonkers 

Year 1 are bouncing their way to the last week of school! What a fabulous day at Go Bonkers. We were incredibly proud of our children who received an extra session for their high attendance too! After a morning of bouncing, jumping and duelling the children enjoyed an ice pole to cool down too! 

Literacy Week 

The children have been writing their own stories based on the story ‘The Case of the Missing Carrot Cake’. We have been working hard to use adjectives for description, finger spaces and capital letters and full stops. 

First the children created their main characters a hero and villain. Next the children designed their story boards before writing their epic tales! 

PSHCE

This week the Year 1 children had their Private Parts PSHCE lesson.

Year 1 have been focusing on ‘Growing and Changing’ this term. This part of the PSHCE programme is designed to help children make healthy choices and keep themselves safe during their school years and beyond. In Year 1 we have learnt about the names of our body parts. 

Year 1 Learning Week 4 Scrum-diddly-umptious Bake Off

 

Sports Day Monday 4th July 2022 2pm

Please join us for our Year 1&2 Sports Day on Monday 4th July 2022. Children must wear their PE kits (navy blue shorts, plain white t-shirt with or without the Broadford logo, trainers or plimsolls and a sun hat). Sunscreen must be applied before school and children should bring a water bottle with them. We look forward to seeing you all.

Year 1 Bake Off 

On Monday we went to Lidl to buy our ingredients for cake making. The children absolutely loved choosing their own ingredients for their cakes and working together as a team. They got to choose all of their own decorations and pay for it using their £1.

The first groups in Apricot Class, Beech Class and Walnut Class baked their cakes on Wednesday followed by the second group on Thursday ! The children measured out the ingredients and worked as a team to make the cake mixture. They mixed self-raising flour, caster sugar, eggs and butter and buttered some cake tins. The teachers then put the cakes in the oven.

After lunch, the children spent time measuring ingredients to make buttercream and icing. They then worked together to implement their design and decorate their cakes! 

We hope the children enjoyed their experience and that their families enjoy the cake that they've brought home for you to try!

Walnut Class Forest School

 

Walnut class were busy playing games, making, finding and watching animals at forest school today. They were bird watching and hunting in the mud for insects. Lots of clay animals were made including a fox, hedgehog, ladybird, tadpole, rabbit, spiders and butterflies. They spotted seagulls and wood pigeons. At the end of the session they shared with each other which animals were their favourite and why.
