British Science Week In Year 2

British Science Week In Year 2

Buddy Up!

British Science Week provided us with the perfect opportunity to work with some of the older children in the school. Year 2 were lucky enough to spend an afternoon with Year 6, looking at 'growth'. We asked the question; Do all of our body parts grow as we get older? We decided to investigate this by pairing up with a child in Year 6 to measure our hands, arms and head. Our teachers were very impressed by the reciprocity demonstrated by Year 2 and Year 6! We enjoyed comparing our measurements to our Year 6 buddies.

Cornflour awe and wonder

What is Science Week without an experiment? We have been investigating cornflour, making cornflour slime. We discovered that although it is a liquid, it had very different properties to some of the other liquids that we know.

'When you squish it it goes runny and falls out of your hand' - Rosie

'When you tap it it goes hard then when you scoop it it's liquid!' - Fariha

'It's turning solid!' - Joshua

Parents: Ask me what happened when I tapped my cornflour
slime!
