Year 2 Week 4 Learning

Year 2 Week 4 Learning

Literacy

This week we have been 'green pen editing' learning how to read and edit our work. We looked at our letters from last weeks learning and edited them against our success criteria. Some of the things we were looking for were; capital letters, full stops, commas for lists, spelling mistakes and correctly formed letters sitting on the line. As part of our 'Our World' topic, we have also begun to look at a real life eco-warrior - Greta Thunberg. We have been researching who she is and why she is so inspirational. We will be using this information to create information leaflets next week.

Maths

We have been continuing with all things fractions this week, finding fractions of amounts. We have been solving problems such as one half of 18 following our steps to success.

1. Find the whole

2. How many groups?

3. Divide the whole equally using my multiplication knowledge

4. How many in each group?

We know that half means 2 equal groups, quarter means 4 equal groups and third means 3 equal groups. We have been using our knowledge of division ad multiplication to divide by 2, 3 and 4. Keep up your TT Rockstars at home for extra practise with this!

Geography

In Geography, we have been looking at the human and physical features in our local area. We looked at aerial photographs of familiar places such as Central Park, Hilldene shops and our school to spot human and physical features. We have also been busy in the construction area building our outside area with the blocks, thinking about the positing of different features.

Parents: Ask me what a human and physical feature is, I have been learning new vocabulary this week!

See our upcoming blog to see what we have been doing for British Science Week this week!
