Year 1 Week 3 Learning

Literacy

This week, the children have been learning about snails, writing fact files and drawing pictures of what snails look like and what they like to eat. Year 1 has also been completing a list on what they would need to look after their own pet snail.

Next week, Year 1 is continuing to read The Snail and the Whale. The children will take part in a class discussion on deciding  if the snail should go on the adventure with the whale. The children will also be completing Persuasive writing.

Science

In Science, the children have been learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. The children had to read the list of food each animal eats and then decide if the animals were herbivores, omnivores or carnivores. The children recorded the information into different tables including a Venn Diagram.

Next week, we have Science Week and five fun-filled afternoons of Science!

Computing

A massive thank you to Redwood Class and Miss Betty this week. We were extremely lucky to have some additional helpers as we learnt how to use  keyboards and touchpads in our computing lessons. The children worked together to complete a drawing using the different icons and afterwards practised their typing skills.

Apricot Class Forest School

We were all pleased to see the sun shining this morning. Year 1 got busy creating some balancing tracks and made various routes around them. We went on a tree hunt and did some bark rubbings, noticing the differences in the bark types and trying to work out which type of tree it was from the bark. There was also lots of imaginative play and hunting in the ‘go find it’ game.
