Year 1 : What We Are Learning
This week our maths objectives have been:
To sort objects
I can put objects into groups
I can describe how the groups are sorted
I can begin to count how many objects in a group
To count objects
I can carefully count objects in a group
I know to start with number 1
I can write the number of objects
The children enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities that helped them explore maths concepts in fun and engaging ways. One of the highlights of the week was our sorting activity, where children worked together to sort and group objects placed on their tables. They used their observation and reasoning skills to group items based on different characteristics such as shape, colour and size.
The children have also been working hard in HIstory this week. We focussed on the word ‘legacy’ and considered the similarities and differences between Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. We also looked at King Charles III and placing each royal in chronological order.
The children were challenged to think about what their legacy might be. Many of the children thought of an object that was special to them and considered this to be their legacy should they choose. In Walnut class a student spoke about how his grandfather had passed down an item of clothing to him and he identified this as a legacy item!
In Science this week, the children have been working on identifying and naming parts of the human body. They carefully drew around their feet and compared their foot sizes with their classmates.
Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
