Pine enjoy sharing their favourite stories in support of International Literacy Day

In order to recognise International Literacy Day, Pine class spent time showing year four their favourite books and children took it in turns to read them to each other and discuss their favourite characters and plot lines.

Did you know that the cost of illiteracy to the global economy is estimated at £761 billion?

Pine class enjoyed sharing their favourite fiction and non-fiction books, short stories, poems and comics with year four and were excited to show them the topic books we have been reading everyday.

"I've really enjoyed all our topic books about superheroes."  (Tommy)

"My favourite book isn't a story- I like finding things out about insects and mini-beasts." (Kyla)

"We brought in some of our favourite books from home- mine is about a frog. The story is funny and it rhymes."  (Florence)

Cedar enjoy National Literacy Day

We had great fun today talking about our favourite books and why. Paddington was a firm favourite, other titles included Finding Nemo, Charlie and Lola and poetry books.

After lunch we shared our favourite book with Year 5 discussing characters, plot and favourite part.

National Literacy Day in Cherry.

To celebrate National Literacy day today the children took time to read with others across the School. Cherry class paired up with year 5 and took it in turns to read to eachother. The children loved sharing their favourite books and authors, and they gave great reasons for their choices. 

Did you know that approximately 775 million are illiterate, meaning they lack the basic reading and writing skills to manage daily living and employment tasks? 

Let's ensure the children of Broadford do not become part of this statistic by continuing to share our love for reading and reading every single day!
