Star Writer - Elliot

Congratulations to Elliott who has won star writer for this week- well deserved! Elliott spent considerable time and effort perfecting his writing of facts about the 'Gunpowder Plot'. He did a fantastic job- remembering lots of little details, such as, gunpowder was hidden under the King's chair and the King's guards found the barrels of gunpowder. Elliott usd his phonic knowledge to support his writing and managed to write a whole page! Great work, Elliott!

Year 2 sculpture workshop.

Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed designing, making, bashing, bending and twisting materials during the sculpture workshop.

In the morning Cedar made their own designs and mounded them onto metal.

First they designed their ideas:

Then they created the first stage of the sculpture by bending and cutting strong wire:

Then they prepared their metal plate by smoothing off the ends:

Then the bashing began!

The children made some beautiful sculptures:

Next they began to build an igloo:

Once Cedar had assembled the igloo shell, it was Cherry's turn..

Cherry also drew their design then applied the metal to make their plates.

They used a hammer to bash the metal until their image showed:

They then practised using cable ties to ensure they were securing them correctly:

Finally they attached silver tape and their metal plates to the construction!

Independent learning in year 2

This term the children have been very resourceful during independent learning time.

Inside a group of children chose to use the IPads to research about Antarctica.

Outside the children made an igloo.

Then they cooked on a fire.

"If we make some food we can put it in the igloo on the fire", Charlie Marshall.

Some children played a competitive game and made a score card to record their scores.

Matthew has been practising his counting when throwing the ball into the racket.

"My record is 5." Jaydon was able to work out that if he was counting in 5s his score would be 25.

We are very pleased with the progress made in Year 2 so far, the children are beginning to show very impressive independent learning!

Armistice Day

Pine class learned about the history of Armistice Day and completed themed morning activities as they came in for school. They made poppies to wear, wreaths and created poppies on the computers. Later, the class were silent for two minutes at 11am in remembrance.

Armistice day.

Today the children in Cherry class fell silent at 11am to remember servicemen and women who have made sacrifices for us. The children were very respectful, remaining silent throughout and asked many insightful questions after.

Year 1 Learning Challenge

This half term we are looking at the topic 'glow and glitter', covering festivals and celebrations from around the world in the lead up to Christmas. We will also be looking at winter and Christmas themed traditional stories. Here is the learning challenge for this half term. Please encourage the children to complete some of the activities as this is a great way to extend and consolidate their learning at home.
