Year 2 Christmas Concert 2023

 

Dear Parents & Carers,

Year 2 Christmas Celebration - Wednesday 6th December @ 9.15am & 2.00pm

It’s the time of year when we start looking forward to our Christmas celebrations and concerts. We warmly invite parents & carers to come and join us on these occasions. 

To be able to accommodate everyone fairly this year, every child has been allotted two tickets for their concert. We ask that you bring these tickets along with you on the day and our school prefects will be ready to collect them on the door.

The concert will take place in the Sorrell Hall (old building). You can access this hall through the double doors to the left of the main Reception office.

Cedar's Christmas Spirit

Pupils in Cedar have come in with a buzz of excitement in their Christmas jumpers today!

Kimberley and Finley continued in the festive mood by finding the most new words from the words:

FATHER CHRISTMAS and CHRISTMAS TREE

Making Diwali lamps - Winter Festivals

Year One have been studying Diwali as part of their Celebrations topic. They have learnt the story of the Ramayana, a Hindu epic about Prince Rama, his wife Sita and an evil ten-headed demon called Ravana. Hindus celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, by lighting small lamps known as Divas.

Children in Pine Class today had the chance to make their own Diwali lamps out of clay. The children are used to making models from play dough, but clay is a very different material and a lot of them were surprised by how much harder it was to shape. It definitely worked the muscles in their hands! 

They deorated their lamps with colourful beads and sequins. The end results were very impressive, and everyone is looking forward to the clay fully drying so they can take their creations home.

Story: Cinderella "Talk for Writing"
Story to be learned in class - copies of the story will be sent home.

	Composer	Painting	Story
Basic	Listen to the piece and start to identify some instruments.	Find out 5 facts about the painting/artist.	Know the story of Cinderella by heart.
Advanced	Research the life of the composer.	Draw a picture in similar style	Write your own version of Cinderella.
Deep	Produce a piece of art/collage based on how the music makes you feel.	Use the image as stimulus for a “100 word challenge”.	Learn about the history of the story.

Remember Remember the 5th of November...

After learning about the Gunpowder plot Cherry class made a Guy this week. We discussed the implications of the past on our lives today including the tradition of putting a Guy on a bonfire to celebrate the failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Today we had a go at this ourselves!

Fireworks Fun!

Children in Year 1 had fun this afternoon making some firework-themed play dough models. They used brightly coloured play dough and added glitter and gems, then finished it off with sparkly pipe cleaners. The end results were fantastic! Everyone is getting into the spirit of Bonfire Night and looking forward to seeing some real fireworks on Wednesday.

Cedar Sukkot Building

Pupils in Cedar Class have studied the Jewish Sukkot festival in Religious Education this week.

Pupils learnt how Jewish people build Sukkot outside their homes or Synagogues from natural resources. They learnt how the roof is made from items that grew from the ground, for example branches and palm leaves. Some learners then continued to demonstrate reciprocity in the outside area building a Sukkah of their own.

Note: Sukkot is the plural of Sukkah.
