Cycle Awareness Day

Cedar have been busy this afternoon with their Cycle Awareness Day. The children learnt about how to keep themselves safe on their bikes and scooters, discussing the use of correctly fitted helmets, lights and high visibility clothing. The children all had a chance to practice their skills on two different courses, focusing on using their brakes to stop correctly. Their was lots of rosy cheeks and smiling faces at the end of the afternoon!

Cedar are scientists.

Cedar have been scientists this week, investigating if an ice cube melts faster in a hot or cold liquid.
First they predicted what they thought would happen.

"I predict that it will melt quicker in hot water as an ice lolly melts in the sun," Sydney said confidently.

Next thermometers were used accurately to measure the temperature of the liquids.

" Wow! the hot water is 52 degrees Celsius," Adi exclaimed.

Finally we recorded our results in a table and discovered if our predictions were correct.

Build-a-bear trip

This week, Pine class went to Stratford to visit the Build-a-bear store, where they made their own bears. The store staff helped them to stuff and sew up their bears and they were all given their own unique names- as well as magic hearts, put inside them to bring them to life! The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip, as well as the journey; they were very excited to go on a train! Many thanks to all the parents who supported us and volunteered to come with us.

Star Writer: Pine

This week, our star writer is Florence. During rainbow write, Florence designed her own 'biscuit bear' and described it using lots of verbs and adjectives, just like the story by Mimi Grey. Florence has also been writing lots in her choice time and has written lots of facts about Winnie the Pooh as part of her home learning challenge. Great effort, Florence!

Star writer: Mulberry

Congratulations Andreea for winning star writer! This week Andreea wrote a fact sheet about all the things she has learned about different types of bears and their habitats, ensuring she used factual language in her writing.

Attendance champions Cedar hit Kispace

The children in Cedar class have been talking about it all term. The day finally came - they were going to Kidspace!
After a very excitable journey and safety talk from the staff at Kidspace they were let loose around the area.
From go-karting to rock-climbing, exploring to firing soft balls at one another - Cedar did not stop for the whole 3 hours!

Some children braved the climbing wall.
"I'm going right to the top", Summer-Rose.

"I want to do it again!" Evie.

At one point there was even a battle between the children and teachers...it's fair to say the children definitely won!

It didn't stop there, next up was go-karting.

Finally the trip had to come to an end, just a quick snack stop before we headed back to school.

In Cedar we take pride in our excellent attendance. The children are very committed to the number 1 rule at Broadford. We hope to be returning to Kidspace next term!

Cedar Star Writer

Congratulations to Harry Hann who won star writer this week in Cedar. Harry wrote a wonderful story about the journey of Christopher Columbus, making sure he included adjectives to describe the setting and characters. Well done Harry!

Outdoor gym

Pine class spent some of their afternoon using the outdoor gym equipment. They worked in pairs or small groups to support and coach each other. They discussed the importance of balance and working together cooperatively to get the most out of the gym equipment. They noticed how different equipment worked different areas of their body.
"This one you have to move all your arms and legs, which is hard" Rashid

"This makes me move the fastest!" Alice

The coaches help their partners and discuss which body parts they are using the most/ least.

"We ended up both on it to make it work the best and we had to work together to get it to move" Dora

"If I keep pulling with my arms I can make my legs go higher!" Ruben

"It was hard at first but I told Keira to lean forward" Phoebe

"This one is my favourite and I've been on them all!" Oliver

Pine's Star writer: Kyla

Congratulations this week to Kyla who is star writer for Pine class. Kyla wrote a story about bears in the style of David Walliams' book 'bear who went boo', ensuring she used a verb. Great writing, Kyla!

Year 2 experiences: collages.

last week, Year 2 had a fantastic Art day. Miss Gilder created Christopher Columbus collages with them using different materials. She was very impressed with how hard they worked and how they could articulate what they were doing.

" Wow! Columbus is 3D " said Maliat .
" I enjoyed making the sea using different shades of blue" Tommy said.
