This week, our Year 2 children enjoyed an exciting school trip to the cinema, where they had the chance to watch the heartwarming film IF. The outing was a wonderful opportunity for them to relax, laugh and let their imaginations run wild as they followed the story’s magical characters and meaningful moments.

The children returned full of enthusiasm, sharing their favourite scenes and the lessons they took away from the film. It was a lovely experience that sparked creativity and created memories they’ll remember for a long time.

Year 1 Barleylands Trip

  

Well done to Year 1 for behaving so well at Barleylands. 

The trip was to teach the children how food is grown on a farm and how we use it in everyday recipes. The children made homemade pizza, and made the dough from scratch! Kneading the dough and then adding the toppings to make it delicious. We hope that they let you try a little piece!

As well as the pizza making, the children had time to explore the farm. They were able to feed the sheep and stroke the goats. They also had a ride on the tractor, exploring the grounds of Barleylands, which was so much fun and at times a bit of a bumpy ride! 

We would like to send a special thank you to the parent helpers who came to Barleylands with us for being SUPER parent helpers. Also, a big thank you for all the parents that paid for the trip.

Discover Children’s Story Centre -

At Broadford, we recognise the importance of an enriching curriculum both inside and outside of the classroom and have therefore planned an exciting opportunity for your children to visit Discover Children’s Story Centre.  The story world session provides a wide range of interactive activities that use creative play to engage children and support the development of communication, creativity, and literacy skills.

On the day of the trip, children need to arrive in the morning at normal school time as we will be leaving promptly at 8:45 am to arrive at the Discover centre at 10am.  The children will have lunch at a nearby park (weather permitted) and then make their way back to school. 

We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £5.50 per child. This will pay towards the cost of entry  and travel. If we do not receive enough contributions, then the trip will be unable to go ahead. Children are required to wear school uniform and bring with them a packed lunch and water bottle. We would also advise that children wear hats and suncream if we are fortunate enough to have hot weather. 

If you would like to attend the school trip with your child please let the class teacher know. 

Please complete the paper form sent home. If your child requires a school-packed lunch, it is essential the letter is handed back on time so that the lunches can be ordered by the kitchen.

Walnut's visit to St Andrew's Church

On Thursday, 18th May, Walnut Class went on an amazing trip to St Andrew's Church in Hornchurch. They had an exciting time riding the bus to and fro.

When they got to Hornchurch Town Centre, they walked the short distance to the church where they were well received by the Vicar with her amiable and knowledgeable team.

The children learnt about the importance of a church and the different ceremonies like weddings. They learnt about the church’s long history, their stained glass windows and saw two models of the church. One of them was made entirely of match sticks and the other made of sugar. That model was as sweet as it was beautiful except that they couldn't eat it!

Worthy of mention was the bell- ringing activity. Each child took turns to ring one of the church’s ancient bells and they absolutely loved it.

Too soon, it was time to go home and we took the bus back.

Year 1 Barleylands and Sports day Learning Week 5

 

Barleylands

Once again the Year 1’s have been absolutely amazing. Thank you to everyone for your support and for making this trip achievable. We had a fantastic time at Barleylands Farm.

The children loved feeding the animals and taking part on a tractor ride around the park too. Afterwards all the children were able to experience making their own pizzas. The children enjoyed the Field to Fork experience and Feeding the animals.

Go red, yellow, blue and green house teams! What an amazing afternoon of sports. The children were excellent and thank you to all of our parents and carers who were able to join us and make the afternoon so special. The children worked really hard to complete their events and showed reciprocity and resourcefulness too.

This term, our focus has been Food Technology. The children have designed, created and evaluated their products. From cake making to fruit kebabs. The children enjoyed tasting different fruits as part of their research. Afterwards they designed their own fruit kebabs. This week the children made their fruit kebabs.

PE

This week, the children have been practicing playing parachute games. These games involve the use of a parachute to exercise the children’s muscles while strengthening their arms and shoulders. Most importantly, parachute games develop team-building skills and reciprocity. 

Forest School

Walnut Class enjoyed their final morning of forest school  for the year today. They toasted marshmallows, made them into s’mores and enjoyed eating them. They made woodland warrior wristbands with all their favourite things from forest school. They finished off by sharing their favourite memories from the year, these included watching the tadpoles in the pond, climbing, using the hammocks and of course eating the marshmallows. 

Story Telling 

This week some children have been making up their own stories to read to the class. They have been fantastic to read, but also a little bit scary!
