Year 1- what we have been learning

We hope you all had a restful half term, the children have had a great first week back and have been very busy with all the new topics.

Literacy

This week the children created a poster and wrote a set of instructions that will help Pattan protect his pumpkin.

Next week the children will be writing a letter from Pattan’s perspective. In their letter, they will be explaining how they intend to solve the very tricky problem confronting them.

Maths

The children in year 1 have started a new topic of addition and subtraction. This week they have been adding numbers within 10 and using the part whole model to show their workings.

Next week the children will continue to learn about addition, they will be adding within 20 and learning about number sentences using bar models to display their workings.

Science

In science this week year 1 has been  comparing the seasons from Summer to Autumn. The children observed the changes of the trees and the colors of the leaves. They also noticed that the sky was a lot darker and that the birds seemed to have flown away.

Computing

Year 1 has been getting creative on the ipads this week. They have been using the paint app that allows children to make pictures using different colors and fonts.

Use the QR code to play the paint game at home.
