Year 1- What we are learning

 


Year 1 has had a delightful week, being introduced to Geography and creating some pictures for remembrance day. 



Literacy

This week in Literacy, the children have been writing letters in the role of Pattan. They have been thinking about feelings and how Pattan is going to look after his pumpkin




Next week the children are going to be writing descriptive sentences using their adjectives to describe Pattan’s Pumpkin. 



Maths

The children have been learning about addiction  this week, they have been using different methods to count and show their workings. Next week, the children are going to be introduced to bar models and how to find answers using number lines.

Geography


Year 1 experienced their first Geography lesson this year. We explained to the children that they are going to be learning about the world in which they live. This week we introduced the 7 continents.

Science

The topic this term for Science is Animals (including humans). This week the children have been measuring the height of their classmates,  from tallest to shortest. We have also been drawing and labeling different parts of the human body.






Computing

This week the children are continuing to explore the paintz.app on the ipads. They have been using different tools to make a picture inspired  by the artist Piet Mondrian. 


A Visit from Theo!


Walnut, Apricot and Beech class had a lovely visit from Theo this week. It was pouring with rain outside so the children decided to give me a cuddle and read him some lovely stories. He was a very spoiled dog! 






RE 


In RE this week we have been learning about Christianty. The children have been looking at the story, The Good Samaritan and why Christian’s believe that this story helps them to be kind and helpful to other people. 







Music

Children have been listening to different types of music. This week they have been finding the pulse and learning the new song for the term. Over the next few weeks the children will be starting to prepare for the Christmas nativity. 







Remembrance Day


As this week marks remembrance day the children have taken part in activities and a 2 min silence to help them to understand why it’s such a special day. The children have created some lovely Poppy pictures using newspaper print and crate paper.
