After our short break, the children have settled
very well and have completed lots of fun learning.
Here are some of the highlights of our week!
Literacy and Topic
This week in Literacy we have been learning
about the Great Fire of London. We have been
using our 5 senses to describe how one would feel
during the time of the Great Fire of London. In History,
we have enhanced our learning of the
Great Fire of London. We have done this
by watching videos and exploring images
of fashion and objects that were used in
1666 and imagined we were there.
This enabled the children to put themselves
into the shoes of people during 1666 and
compare how facilities are better now.
Ryan said, “The fire was able to spread quickly
because everything was mainly made out of wood.”
Tesha said, “The roads were very narrow and
it was quite dark in 1666”
Maths
In Maths, we have been learning the column method
to add two digit numbers without exchanging.
The children used concrete objects such as counters,
dienes and multi-link cubes to assist
their counting and enhance their addition skills.
Also, the children worked very hard to use their
‘Place Value’ knowledge and times tables
(counting in 2's, 5’s, 10’s and 3’s)
when adding two digit numbers using
the column method.
Max said, “I know 40 add 50 is 90 because 50
add 50 is 100 and I need to take away 10.”
Anya said, "We always start from the ones
column when we are adding numbers.”
During our choice activities, some children explored
the construction area and created some imaginative,
creative buildings. It was really fascinating to see
children's minds grow as they explored
how to make strong,
tall or functional buildings.
Teddy said, “My building is really big and
it is called a castle.”
Elliot said, “My building is huge.
I can fit inside.”
What wonderful learning we have had from Year 2.
Well done everyone!
