Year 1- What we are learning

This week the children have been busy with lots of activities. They have been working hard in Phonics this week learning new sounds and practicing the green and red words. We also hope that you all enjoyed our Stay and learn session on Tuesday. It was so nice to see so many parents come in to read with the children.

Literacy

This week in literacy the children have been learning about adjectives. They have been using adjectives to describe Pattan’s pumpkin and writing descriptive sentences.

Maths

We have been continuing with additions this week. Year 1 are using different methods to help them to add within 10. The children have been learning to write number sentences using Bar models and number lines to find the answers.

Next week we will be moving on to Subtraction. The children will be learning how to count back and to take objects away to find the answer.

Music

The children are practicing songs for the nativity and seem to be enjoying listening to the new songs. They are doing really well learning all the new words.

Science

This  term we are learning about animals (including humans). The children went on a sensory walk this week. They have been learning about what senses are and exploring the taste, smell and sounds of the outside area. (They haven't been tasting anything from the playground!)

Geography

This week the children have been learning about the Ocean and how the Ocean is split into 5. They have been singing the song to help them to remember.

Here is a copy of the song to help the children to remember.

Computing

In Computing the children have been completing digital painting and focusing on the artwork of famous painters. This week, the children were inspired by Henri Matisse. The children created their own digital paintings of ‘The Snail’ and used collage techniques in the creative area.
