What we have been learning- Year 1

This week in literacy we completed our end-of-term assessments. We had to write independently, showing all the skills we have learnt so far, apply our current phonic knowledge and ensure we were writing beautifully! Please remember the children will sit their phonic screening paper the week commencing 9th of June; they could be called at any point during that week, so please continue practising past phonic papers and set 2 and 3 sounds over the half-term!

In maths this week we completed our end of term assessments. We had to gather our knowledge and apply it. To do this we had to remember how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s and identify equal or unequal groups. We then practised doubling numbers up to 20.

In D&T, we created our fruit kebabs and fruit salads using the skills we have been learning. We chopped and peeled various fruits, remembering how to do so safely!

Parents stay and learn

Thank you to all the parents who attended the final stay and learn of year 1. We really appreciate the support and kindness you’ve continued to show us and your children. We were very fortunate to have the local dentist come in and speak about the importance of brushing our teeth twice a day, eating healthier foods and the consequences of a high-sugar diet. The children had the opportunity to brush their teeth in class alongside their parents and were able to take home their very own toothbrush and toothpaste!
