A huge well done Yr 2!

Year 1 - What we have been learning

Since the start of the World Cup this week,  the children have taken part in some football activities, from designing their own kit to making posters supporting their favorite teams. We even got to enjoy watching the game and cheering England on!

 Literacy

This week, the children worked very hard to use amazing adjectives to describe their setting. It was lovely seeing the children use ambitious vocabulary in their writing. Well done Year 1!

Next week, the children will be using their story-mapping skills to summarise the beautiful story they have been reading s

in the last couple of weeks.

Maths

This week in math the children have been learning about subtraction. We have been looking at the different ways to say subtraction and how we subtract by taking objects away. The children have been using the take away method and the part whole model to show their working out.

Next week, year 1 will continue with subtraction (within 10) they will also be looking at Fact families and how the numbers given can be used in both Addition and subtraction.

Geography

We have been exploring Google Earth this week. The children have been learning to recognise where they live. We focused on which continent, county and town the children live in. Year 1 found Google Earth interesting and were very interested in finding where they lived.

Science

This week, we have been exploring our senses and how they help us to make sense of the world. The children explored their touch and sight senses this week. Next week, we will be exploring smell and taste.

Computing

This week, the children have been explaining why they have used certain tools to create their digital paintings to recreate the work of the artist, Wassily Kandinsky. The children had to choose different paint tools to do different jobs, and chose different colours to create their pictures. Afterwards, children had the opportunity to use different forms of media to create their pictures in the creative arts areas in class.

RE

This week in RE, the children have been comparing the Ten commandants story with Goldilocks. They had a brilliant discussion on how Goldilocks should behave and what she could do next time to make things better.

Beech Class Forest School

l

This week, Beech class' theme at Forest School was Senses.

We used our eyes to look for autumn colours. We used our noses to smell aromatic plants and water while making potions.

Finally we took off our wellies and explored our sense of touch with an autumnal barefoot walk.

'This feels so soft'

'It's so relaxing'

'Ooh, these are surprisingly smooth, like a massage, I like it!'

It’s behind you!!!

Year 1 were lucky this week and got to watch the Pantomime Sleeping Beauty. The children really enjoyed watching the evil Maleficent and the lovely princess. It was lots of fun and the children behaved fantastically. ‘Oh no they didn’t, Oh yes they did!’

25.11.2022- Wonderful Learning in Yr 2

What a wonderful week we have had, full of great learning and fun. Here are some of the highlights of our week!

Literacy

In Literacy this week, children have written a Diary Entry based on their time travel back to 1666. Children have outlined events that have occurred during the Great Fire of London. They have ensured that emotions and feelings were expressed and that it is written in the past tense. We have really enjoyed reading the children's work and it is wonderful to see them grow as writers.

Maths

In Maths this week, children have continued to develop their knowledge of number fact families and have applied this knowledge to solve fluency and reasoning questions. The children have been using concrete and pictorial resources to support their learning. It has been wonderful to see children spotting patterns and problem solving.

Choosing time

During choosing time, children in Year 2 have explored different resources to make wonderful creations. They have engaged in meaningful conversation outside of the classroom. It has been wonderful to see children creating restaurants, hotels and sport competitions in their choosing time. They have also shown evidence of counting in 2s and 3s using resources outside of the classroom. We are looking forward to seeing their creative minds grow further.

Well done Year 2!
