Year 2 Learning- Week 8

We have been very busy in Year 2 this week, here are some of the  highlights of our week!

Literacy

This week in literacy our grammar focus was letter formation and uplevelling sentences. We thought about ways we can change sentences to make them sound exciting. This week we have also learnt about book reviews. We wrote a book review about Egg Box Dragon. We rated the book, spoke about our favourite parts and drew our favourite scenes.

Maths

This week was our last week learning about Place Value. We showed all we have learnt this term. This included estimating on a number line, completing number tracks, writing numbers in numerals and completing number sentences. We have been amazing with our resilience while learning Place Value. All the teachers are so proud!

PSHE

This week we have learnt about kindness and respect. Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Respect is regard for the feelings, wishes, or rights of others. We looked at a range of scenarios and decided if the person was showing kindness, respect or neither. We then completed a worksheet on ways we can show kindness and respect and ways that are not showing kindness and respect. It is cool to be kind!

Black History Month

This week as part of Black History Month we have taken part in art and learned African themed dances. We learnt about Alma Thomas who was an African-American artist and teacher who lived and worked in Washington D.C and is now recognised as a major American painter of the 20th century. Thomas is best known for the "exuberant", colourful, abstract paintings. We used bright coloured paper to create circular designs. We created patterns and our art work looked fabulous!

Happy Diwali!

This week we celebrated Diwali as a whole school.  Diwali also known as the Festival of Lights is a Hindu religious festival and one of the most important festivals within Hinduism. The children came dressed in their brightest coloured clothes and participated in a range of activities including making Rangoli patterns, completing Mendi hands and learning the story of Rama and Sita - Listen here. Happy Diwali from Year 2!

Well done Year 2 on a fabulous first half term. Enjoy a well deserved break, we can't wait to see you back at school!
