Year 1- What we are learning

This week in Year 1 the children have been very busy with all the learning and activities that they have completed. The children have also settled back into the Read write inc (phonics) routine well and are working hard when learning new sounds.

Literacy

Question? Who? What? When? Where? This week the children have been learning about questions. They have been focusing on what language we use when asking a question and recognising that a question mark is needed at the end. They have been thinking about what they would like to ask Beegu if they ever meet her.

Next week, Year 1 will be writing descriptive sentences and sequencing the story of Beegu. This is to show the comprehension of the text and to encourage the grammar in the children's writing.

The Capital Letters and Full Stops Song (A MUST for any KS1 class!)

Maths

This week in Maths, Year 1 have been learning about counting forwards and backwards within 20 and recognising one more and one less to a given number.

Next week, the children will be focusing on comparing objects and numbers and using mathematical language like Greater than, Less Than and equal to.

Topic

Forest School

. Year 1 were super excited to use their senses in a variety of ways today. The barefoot trail was met with lots of excitement. ‘This feels amazing, I love how this feels,’ was one child’s exclamation as he moved along each tray. The children made bird feeders and watched to see if the birds came to feed from them through the binoculars. Birds were spotted in the distance and books hunted through to see if they could work out the type of bird. Blindfolds were worn and sounds of nature listened out for. We finished off with feeling bags identifying sycamore seeds, pine cones, straw and conkers

Science

Continuing with our season topic, Year 1 has been learning about night and day. They completed pictograms to identify which season has the most sunlight and which season get dark the quickest.

Computing

This week the children have been learning about the safety of technology. The children produced some brilliant answers as to why we must look after technology and why it is important to only play games that have been seen by an adult.

Music

This week the children have had a great music session. They had the chance to listen to a piece of music and give their opinion. They have also been learning about how to find the tempo and pulse of the music. Ask your children the ‘Hey you’ song. They are getting very good at it!

Fitness!

For the next six weeks Broadford will be watching and completing a range of fitness videos to get the teachers and the children moving. These pictures show Titanium Tuesday workout.
