Year 1 Spelings Week 1 - 21.04

Below are the Week One spellings:

• If your child is in RWI Group A, B, C, Ditty, or Red, they should practise Group 1 spellings.

• If your child is in RWI Group Green, Purple, Pink, or Orange, they should practise Group 2 spellings.

• If your child is in RWI Group Yellow, Blue, or Comprehension, they should practise Group 3 spellings.

If you're unsure which RWI group your child is in, please ask their class teacher.

Some of the spelling words will focus on Set 1, Set 2, and Set 3 "special friends." Please encourage your child to spot the special friends, Fred Talk, read the word, and then write it.

Some spellings are common exception words, which refer to frequently used words that don't follow typical phonetic rules taught in phonics. These words—also known as "tricky words" or "red words"—need to be learned through sight and memorisation, as their spellings don’t align with standard sound-letter patterns.
