Year One Curriculum Letter 27.09.2024

                                   27th September 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year One - Curriculum Newsletter

Welcome back to a new school year. We are so excited to have the children back.  We have had a fantastic first few weeks getting to know the children and are so proud of the way they have adapted to Year One.

We hope you find this curriculum letter informative. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher by email if you have any questions regarding Year One. (year1@broadford.havering.sch.uk)

Homework:

Our expectation at Broadford is that every child should do the following every night:

·         15 minutes reading to an adult and note in the reading record

·         15 minutes practicing spellings

·         rehearsing times tables facts (2x, 5x and 10x tables) using TTRS

Spellings:

The children will receive spellings every Monday in their spelling books. These words will usually be either common exception words are a group of words that appear commonly in both texts and spoken language, but which can't be decoded using normal phonics rules or high  ‘high frequency words’ (words that they will use in the writing frequently).

Please practice these spellings with your child each night.

Please ensure that your child brings their spelling book to school every Friday. They will complete their test in the book, as this allows you to see their results. We will then send new spellings home in the book every  Monday.
