History
This week in History we looked at chronological order.
This is arranging events in their order of occurrence in time.
We looked at where and when the Great Fire of London
started and how it went on. The children learnt that on
Sunday 2nd September 1666 - The fires started at 1.00am in
Thomas Farriner's bakery on Pudding Lane. On Tuesday
4th September 1666 - St Paul's Cathedral was destroyed by the
fire. On Wednesday 5th September 1666 - The wind dies down and
the fire spreads more slowly. On Thursday 6th September 1666,
the fire was finally put out. We successfully sequenced the events!
Literacy
This week, the children learnt about present tense and past
tense. Additionally, they learnt that a sentence is a
complete idea that starts with a capital letter and ends with a
full stop, question mark or an exclamation mark. Then, they planned a fact
file about London in 1666. They learnt that London
was overcrowded and full of wooden houses
which caused the Great Fire of London to spread so rapidly.
Maths
This week, pupils focused on partitioning any numberusing a part-whole model. We practiced identifying andrecognising the parts and the whole. We used our place valuechart to assist us with partitioning one and two digit numbers.
