Year 2 Learning - Week 4

We have been very busy in Year 2 this week, here are some of the highlights of our week!

Literacy

This week in literacy our grammar focus was verbs and adverbs. We looked closely at the features of instructions. The children then wrote their own set of instructions of ‘how to make a delicious jam sandwich’. Next week, we will have a go at following our instructions to make the perfect jam sandwich.

Harry- "I cant wait to make the real sandwich"
Fire- "Next add the butter"

Maths

This week in Maths the children have been comparing and ordering numbers using the inequality signs. We have been mastering greater than, less than and equal too. The children also challenged themselves by adding numbers to see if they were greater than, less than or equal too another number. We saw some great reasoning skills!

Zariyah- "That one is greater"
Elsie- "That means equal too"

Science
In science, we have continued to look at materials and their properties. This week, we tested the hypothesis 'Hard materials cannot absorb water'. The children put this to the test by closely observing a brick, plastic cup and piece of wood to see if they were absorbent.

PSHE

This week we furthered our knowledge to the Zones of Regulation. The Zones of Regulation is an original framework and curriculum that develops awareness of feelings, energy and alertness levels while exploring a variety of tools and strategies for regulation, prosocial skills, self-care, and overall wellness. This curriculum provides us an easy way to think and talk about how we feel on the inside and sort these feelings into four colored Zones, all of which are expected in life. We created our own Toolboxes to help with emotions felt in each zone. We also had a go at showing the emotions.

Lucas- "Here is my angry face"
Robyn- "Patting my cat helps me to calm myself"
George- "I'm doing a silly face"
