Year 1: What We Are Learning

72% of all children in Year 1 and 2 made expected (or above) progress in their Autumn 1 RWI assessment!” Miss Davis proudly shared. This success has also been down to the fantastic efforts of parents/ carers at home who contribute to their children’s learning; thank you!

This week Year 1, the children have been developing their understanding of systematic number bonds within 10. They have been learning and practising their number bonds to 10, exploring all the different pairs of numbers that work together to make 10.The children have worked brilliantly with practical resources and have shown growing confidence in explaining their thinking using the part–whole model.

The children have also been working hard in PSHE this week working on the following learning objectives:

  • Recognise emotions and physical feelings associated with feeling unsafe; 

  • Identify people who can help them when they feel unsafe

The children identified four people who they could talk to about their feelings if they felt unsafe and wrote them down on the four limbs of a person’s outline. They also discussed the bodily sensations that feeling anxious, worried or upset evokes ie sweaty hands, needing the toilet, stomach ache, feeling sick. 

In PE this week the children have This week in PE, the children have been exploring dance and movement through the theme of weather. They’ve been using their bodies to show different weather patterns
