Year 1: What We Are Learning w/b 24th Nov 2025

Year 1: What We Are Learning

This week in maths, we have been learning how to subtract using the part–whole model and the bar model.

Children explored how a “whole” can be split into parts and how taking one part away helps them find what’s left. Using simple diagrams, they practised drawing and solving subtraction problems, building a strong visual understanding of what subtraction really means.

Year 1 followed step by step instructions to create a sliding Gingerbread Man scene as part of our DT project. The children used glue, scissors and strips of paper to create the character sliders. They used a pencil and ruler to carefully create the hole for the character sliders to slip through.

In Science this week the children have been exploring the processes of melting and freezing. They were set an exciting challenge: to save small toys trapped inside blocks of ice!

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!

Mulberry Class Forest School - 24.11.2025

Mulberry Class Forest School - 24.11.2025

On Monday, Miss Float joined us as we thought about orienteering.

The children worked in 3 groups and spent time learning to use a compass then taking part in an orienteering course around the site with Miss Float. The final group set their own routes using sticks, stones and natural items.

Well done to all the groups for trying all the activities.

Year 1: What We Are Learning w/b 14th Nov 2025

Year 1: What We Are Learning

In maths we have been learning about number bonds to 10 using numicon to support our understanding and calculations. We have noticed patterns and began to work systematically.

Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the cinema this week and their behaviour was truly outstanding from start to finish. Despite the poor weather, with heavy rain and even a few drops of snow, the children stayed positive, listened carefully and showed wonderful manners throughout the journey and during the film. We are incredibly proud of how well they represented our school!

“It was my first time going to the cinema and it was amazing”. Said Renae

In science this week the children have been exploring different materials and their properties. The children have also been grouping objects based on their material.

This week our literacy focus book has continued with: Traction Man, by Mini Grey.

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!

Remarkable Retrievers in Year 2

 Remarkable Retrievers in Year 2

This week, the children were excited to begin reading our new text Meerkat Mail. They explored the postcard in the story and showed fantastic retrieval skills, confidently picking out key information and discussing what it told us about Sunny the meerkat. We were especially proud of how resilient the children were when tackling new vocabulary, and how much reflectiveness they showed when thinking about Sunny’s feelings and adventures.

It’s been a wonderful start to our new book!
