Year 1 & 2 Cycling Awareness Day - Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th May
We have an amazing opportunity for our year 1 and 2 pupils to participate in a cycle awareness day. Phil Mylea who is an experienced and professional cycle instructor and runs Bike Club for our older pupils is coming into school to deliver road safety alongside fun cycling activities in a safe environment.
The hour-long sessions will start with Phil discussing the importance of road safety, wearing the correct clothing and why we should check the brakes on our scooters and bikes. The children will then cycle or scoot around the track which will be set up in the playground where they will come across numerous hazards and learn how to navigate them safely. Roadworks will be set up and a lollipop lady with a stop and go sign and the children will become proficient at following these signals. The second part of the session will be the opportunity for some fun races with the children working in teams and will be able to demonstrate their reciprocity skills.
Children must bring their own bikes (with stabilisers if required) or scooter and a safety helmet on the day . Please make sure your child's name is on both their bike or scooter and helmet.
This is a fabulous fun activity whilst also learning about road safety and health benefits of cycling.

Thursday 19th May
