Year 2 Learning 22.3.21

Reading

We will continue to have daily phonic sessions and ensure the children know their sounds really well and are able to read them in words. We will be building fluency and comprehension by encouraging children to use 'fred in their head', introducing new vocbulary, exploring the text and asking questions to develop comprehension and ensuring the children are reading for meaning by making them pause and think if there sentence does not make sense. Please make sure you are reading daily at home too.

We are starting some chapter books this half term like the Worst Witch and some Roald Dahl classics, these might be nice to read as bed time stories too!

Literacy
We are continuing to focus on the text 'Lost and Found'. We are learning to act the story to support us to remember the key parts. We are working on creating our own story and after mapping the original story will start to create our own characters next week.

Maths
We are continuing to consolidate number skills and are finding missing numbers in number patterns, finding 10 more or 10 less and finding the missing number in questions e.g.  24 =   ___  + 20.
A great way to help at home is to continue to support quick recall of number bonds  e.g. you say 5 and they should be able to say 15 if you are playing number bonds to 20. Keep logging on to Rockstar timetables at home!

Science
We are continuing our animal focus and looking at food chains next week, the children need to know the words predator and prey.

Geography
We are looking at our local area and mapping the human and physical features of this using photos. The children have enjoyed using the Ipads to look around the local streets this week!

PSHE
We are using our new SHAPE (Soul, heart, attitude, physical, environment) curriculum and are focusing on Heart - we are looking at relationships and kindness. We are looking at compliments and how our words can make others feel.

Computing
We are designing our own characters for a coding game called Scratch.

Many Thanks,
Year 2 Team
