Year 1 Curriculum Letter Autumn

       15th September 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year One - Curriculum Newsletter

Welcome back to a new school year. We are so excited to have the children back.  We have had a fantastic first week getting to know the children and are so proud of the way they have adapted to Year One.

We hope you find this curriculum letter informative. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher by email if you have any questions regarding Year One. (year1@broadford.havering.sch.uk)

Homework:

Our expectation at Broadford is that every child should do the following every night:

·         15 minutes reading to an adult and note in the reading record

·         15 minutes practicing spelling

·         rehearsing times tables facts (2x, 5x and 10x tables)

Spellings:

The children will receive spellings every Monday in their spelling books. These words will usually be either ‘red words’ (words that cannot be sounded out) or ‘high-frequency words’ (words that they will use in the writing frequently). Please practice these spellings with your child each night.

Please ensure that your child brings their spelling book to school every Friday. They will complete their test in the book, as this allows you to see their results. We will then send new spelling home in the book every  Monday.
