Year Reception: What We Are Learning w/b 11th November 2024

Year Reception: What We Are Learning

Reception have been working really hard this week. Our focus book was The Little Hen and the Great War.

Here is what we have been up to: the children painted poppies and added them to our Reception Outside Area to remember all of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during war. They also painted their hands red and from their hand prints made their own poppy wreaths to display outside our classroom doors. The children also recorded a poem for Rememberance Day.

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. The children have all been assessed and are now working in groups based on this. The children discussed what makes a good friend and made their own friendship recipes. They put the key words in their friendship bowls that they thought makes a good friend. They worked hard to write the initial sounds they could hear in words such as ‘h’ for ‘helps’. They also tried to sound out the words such as ‘kind’ using their set 1 sound mat.  Please continue to read 5 times a week with your children and work on set 1 sounds as well as word time words (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc). Well done Reception for your hard work in Read, Write, Inc and with your writing this week.

In Maths this week the children have been learning all about 2D shapes. They worked hard to recognise triangles and circles in their classroom and during our outdoor shape hunt. The children also went outside and made triangles from sticks in our outside area. They also learnt about positions and could describe the positions different objects were in in our outside area. Well done Reception for your hard work in Maths this week!

The children came into school in odd socks on Tuesday for Anti-Bullying Week. They learnt about the importance of kindness and made friendship recipes and added words such as ‘help’ and ‘kind’ into their friendship recipe bowls.

The children had an amazing day celebrating Children In Need. They all dressed in spots and enjoyed taking part in lots of fun Pudsey themed activities.

Well done Reception for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
