Mulberry Make Shelters

Mulberry have been learning about the fearsome pirate Captain Blackbeard who abandoned his crew on a desert island.

We learned that some people who have been abandoned or shipwrecked survive because they manage to build shelters. We thought about what "shelter" means, what our shelters are and different shelters that other animals live in.

We imagined that the classroom compare bears were Blackbeard's pirate crew, and we were set the challenge of making a shelter that would protect them. Using the natural materials we could find on the school field, we worked in teams to construct a shelter which could keep our compare bear safe and dry.

Conner Holloway and Charlie Simpson worked together brilliantly to make a very robust shelter using rocks. They assessed their first shelter and considered that perhaps the rain could get through, so then lined their shelter with leaves they collected.
