Year 2 Learning blog

This term in Literacy, we are travelling back in time to 1666 to explore the Great Fire of London through the eyes of Vlad the flea!

This week, we enjoyed our very first reading of the story and the children worked incredibly hard to remember key facts about the events of 1666. We discussed where and how the fire started, how it spread so quickly through London’s wooden houses, and how people tried to stop it.

To help bring the story to life, we immersed ourselves in the events through role play. The children took on different roles from the book, acting out important moments and thinking carefully about how the characters might have felt during such a dramatic time. This hands-on experience has helped deepen their understanding of the story and the historical event behind it.Our drama and discussion work will strongly support our writing throughout the term.

We are very much looking forward to seeing their ideas and creativity shine in their upcoming writing!
