Year 1: What We Are Learning W/C 2nd Feb 2026

Year 1: What We Are Learning

This week in RE, the children have been exploring Christian beliefs about God’s creation. They enjoyed learning about what Christians believe God created in seven days, from the world around us to all living things. We also discovered three miracles that Jesus performed, discussing what these stories teach us about kindness, helping others, and having faith. The children loved acting out the scenes of the three miracles Jesus performed and enjoyed reflecting on Christian beliefs.

In History we have been learning about the works of Greta Thunberg and Sir David Attenborough. The children engaged in a wonderful lesson exploring the similarities and differences between the two naturalists. They showed understanding of Greta’s activist work and of David’s TV presenting role. The children watched a short yet inspiring clip of a conversation between the two significant people leaving a message of hope for the future of our planet. This topic will tie in nicely with next’s week’s literacy work when the children create their final leaflets providing information about how to ‘save our world’. Below you will see a Venn diagram that Beech class created comparing similarities and differences between their lives, thoughts and work.

This week in Computing, the children explored how technology and creativity can work together. They learned about the artists Henry Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky, focusing on their use of bold colours, shapes and patterns. Using these ideas, the children created their own digital artwork inspired by each artist, experimenting with colour, design and creative expression while developing their computing skills.

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
