Year 1: What We Are Learning
This week, our Year 1 students had a fantastic time participating in a skipping workshop. It was wonderful to see the children building on the foundations they laid during PE back in September. They showed great perseverance and eagerness to improve their skills. Their coordination and confidence have grown so much, and everyone approached the challenge with a smile!
In Literacy we have been learning about how
to plan and write a persuasive letter.
The children are keen to bake some cakes but
need some money to buy the ingredients.
They have worked well this week to focus on
writing a persuasive letter to Mrs Nicholls
asking for £1 each towards the cost. Their letters
started with ‘Dear…’ and were signed
off with ‘From…’. They then used green pens
for any corrections; in the photo you can
see Nathan modelling this.
In Geography, Year 1 has been focusing on England and
its capital city, London. As part of our learning,
the children retold the story of a bear visiting some
of London’s most famous landmarks. They enjoyed
learning about and describing well known sights
such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Tower Bridge
and the London Eye. Through stories, maps and
discussions the children have been developing their
understanding of capital cities, landmarks and
what makes each place special.
Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
