Year 1 The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Week

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Week

This week we have been celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We have had a brilliant time learning about HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

History

The children completed a timeline of the Queen’s reign and important dates throughout her life.

Walnut Class Poem

In Year 1, as part of our poetry unit we have been learning about rhyme and rhythm and using the works of Dr. Seuss to find rhyming words in poems. The children worked collaboratively to find the rhyming words. In addition, the children then created their own acrostic poem which they performed.

The children loved performing the ChaCha Slide as a team. They have worked incredibly hard this term learning about direction and position. The ChaCha Slide song has been a great way to incorporate fitness, fun and learning the directions, left, right, forwards and backwards too!

Sofia: “I love the ChaCha slide song.”

Ivan: “ If you hold your hands up you can see a L and that’s your left hand.”

Jubilee Tea Party

As part of our work on fractions. The children were able to create their own afternoon tea sandwiches and scones and then cut their sandwiches into halves and quarters.

Broadford Jubilee Fun

Year 1 had a great time building castles, making dens and completing a royal scavenger hunt. Afterwards the children were rewarded with a party after their hard work.

Queen Elizabeth Books

We hope you enjoy reading through the new books which each child in Year 1 has been given. What a fantastic way to remember such a special time in our history.

Summer 1 Best Bits…

Opal

The children have been really enjoying their exploring and learning time in the outside area. It has been a great way of working together as a team to build castles in the sand and making their own dens and tents.

Literacy

This half term the children have loved learning about how we can help our world. They have written letters to Ms Nicholls informing her of all the work they have done at home and school, created posters and information leaflets too!

Maths

This half term, we have focussed on measuring and positions. Webeen practising how to tell the time to o’ clock and half past the hour. We have been measuring time and answering reasoning questions too. Helping your child tell the time is a great way to help with their learning at home.

Year 2 Cycle Awareness Day

 Year 2 Cycle Awareness Day

This week, the children in year 2 participated in a cycle awareness day. They talked about the importance of using bikes and scooters safely and thought about ways in which they could stay safe whilst riding.

They then had a chance to cycle or scoot around the track which included a zebra crossing, stop signals and a roundabout. The year 6 children helped year 2 to take notice of the road signs, stopping at the signals for pedestrians.

'My favourite part was going fast around the track' - Logan-Leigh

'We have to wear a helmet to protect our head' - Evie

'Stop at the zebra crossing so people can cross the road' - Lilly
