Year 2 learning blog 09.01.26

This term in PE, we are focusing on gymnastics! The children have been exploring the unit by learning new vocabulary and experimenting with different ways to move their bodies.

This week, our lessons have been full of fun and exciting activities. The children have been practising:

  • Balancing – holding positions on one foot, along a line, or using different body parts, helping to develop control and stability.

  • Rolling – learning how to safely perform forward rolls, log rolls, and other rolling movements, improving coordination and body awareness.

  • Jumping – trying different jumps, focusing on using their whole body and landing safely.

In addition to learning these skills, the children are beginning to create their own movement sequences. They are experimenting with combining balances, rolls, and jumps into short routines, which will eventually lead to a final performance to share with their peers.

It has been wonderful to see the children showing confidence, creativity, and teamwork. They have been encouraging each other, trying new challenges, and using the key vocabulary we’ve been learning to describe their movements.

We are looking forward to continuing our gymnastics lessons and seeing how the children develop their sequences and prepare for their performance in the coming weeks.
