Year 1: What We Are Learning

Year 1: What We Are Learning

Year 1 have been working really hard this week.

In Literacy this week the children have been writing amazing adjectives to describe Traction Man's personality and his appearance. The children also made their very own characters out of a variety of Arts and Crafts resources. They gave their characters names and decided if they were good or bad. They wrote sentences using adjectives to describe their characters that they made.

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. Please continue to read with your children and work on their Spellings with them. Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record Book.

In Maths this week the children have been using a variety of different Maths resources to make numbers up to twenty. The children used numicon, blocks, ten frames, counters, dienes and ones. They also have been solving more than and less than problems with numbers up to twenty.

In History this week the children have been learning all about Mary Seacole. They wrote down questions that they would like to know about Mary Seacole throughout this half term.

In Science the children learnt more about different types of materials and their properties. They then wrote about different objects and were able to identify what materials the objects were made from and to describe what they were like.

Walnut have been enjoying Forest School. They have been learning all about the rules of Forest School and making outdoor Arts and Crafts.

In RE the children have been learning why Jesus is important to Christians and acted out the parable The Lost Sheep.

Beech and Apricot class' enjoyed visits to Hilldene Library this week. The children chose a book each to read in the Library as well as having a story read to them. They also learnt how to join up to the Library and learnt about all of the fun activities they can be part of when they join. Walnut class are going to the Library next week and are really looking forward to it!

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
