Year 1 - What We Are Learning

Year 1: What We Are Learning

Year 1 have been working really hard during their first full week back after the Christmas holidays.  In Literacy this week the children made predictions on what they think is going to happen in our new story for this half term Traction Man. The children used the front cover to make their predictions. They wrote sentences describing what they think will happen in the story. They also designed their very own superheroes and then wrote sentences describing them. They used amazing adjectives to describe their superheroes.

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. Please continue to read with your children and work on their Spellings with them. Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record Book.

In Maths this week the children have been counting within 20. They have been solving lots of number problems with numbers within 20. They have all produced some brilliant Maths work this week - well done Year 1!

In History this week the children were exposed to pictures and lots of medical equipment to hook them into our new topic for this half term. In History this half term the children will be learning all about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale and they are all excited to learn more about them next week.

In Science the children have begun learning about different types of Materials this week. They learnt about all of the different materials and their properties. They played a game with the materials where they were able to identify the materials from them being described to them and correctly named them when they were pulled out of a bag.

In PE the children enjoyed joining in with lots of dance activities.

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
