Year 1: What We Are Learning

Year 1: What We Are Learning

Year 1 have been working really hard this week.

In Literacy this week the children have been writing in character as Traction Man. They have been writing in the first person and describing how Traction Man was feeling during key points of the story. They have also been describing what Traction Man looks like using lots of amazing adjectives. Well done Year 1!

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. Please continue to read with your children and work on their Spellings with them. Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record Book.

In Maths this week the children have been filling in the missing numbers on the number lines to 20 and comparing numbers using greater than, less than or equal to.

In History this week the children learnt about the key events in Mary Seacole's life and ordered them on a human timeline.

In Science the children discussed the different materials The Three Little Pigs used to build their houses. The children then took part in an experiment. They split up into four groups and had to make houses out of either wooden blocks, Lego, lollipop sticks or paper straws. Once the children had built their houses they then tested them to see which houses would fall down. Year 1 used a hairdryer and tested the houses for 30 seconds to see which ones would stay up and which ones would blow down. The children made predictions on what houses they thought would blow down and they then looked at their predictions after the experiment to see if they were correct.

Apricot and Walnut class' enjoyed visits to Hilldene Library this week. The children chose a book each to read in the Library as well as having a story read to them. They also learnt how to join up to the Library and learnt about all of the fun activities they can be part of when they join.

In PE the children continued to enjoy dance. They moved their bodies and became the various different types of weather.

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
