World Record Attempts!!

Today we had a surprise guest at Broadford School, in order to help us celebrate Science Week!! Robin Ince (best known for presenting 'The Infinite Monkey Cage' with physicist Brian Cox) gave us a visit as part of our challenges with 'Guiness World Records'. Year 4 volunteers worked with Robin Ince to perform some hands on science tests and attempt to recreate and beat a few world records!

This was also filmed for Guiness World Records and so the children got to see what a real film set looked like. Sycamore was transformed by a whole film crew and the children even had their own microphones, just like they have seen on TV.

Our budding scientists from Year 4 were incredibly enthusiastic and were overjoyed to attempt to beat world records, such as, the loudest scream and the loudest burp! It sounded like Adam had been practising for this very record!!

Did you know the loudest scream belongs to a teacher (Annalisa Flanagan), with 121 decibels- the equivalent of a jet engine! The children each attempted to beat the record and our closest was Sophia who got to 110! The children attempted a few other records and also had fun exploring how to recreate the stinkiest plant in the world... all under the comedic tuition of Mr Ince.

Here are some behind the scene photos as the children got prepared to make their big film debut and attempt some world records! We cannot wait to see the final film and our Broadford film stars! Thank you to Guiness World Records for the exciting challenges to help us celebrate Science week.

"The smelliest plant is the corpse plant- Amorphophallus titanum" Adam
"The children were fantastic, they showed such enthusiasm and collaboration. They really worked well together and were not afraid to take on the tasks given to them" Robin Ince
