'Eggsperimenting' in Year 2!

Year 2 have been collaboratively working on a series of experiments using eggs over the course of the last week. They have been looking at the density of a liquid and discussing how to make an egg float, rather than sink, in water. They discovered salt helps to make the tap water more dense and this causes the egg to float.

They have also been investigating how to make an egg see through, using vinegar. The vinegar makes the shell slowly dissolve because it breaks apart the solid calcium carbonate crystals that make up the eggshell into their calcium and carbonate parts. After a few days the egg looks translucent and can be gently squashed, giving it a bouncy appearance.

The children have also enjoyed seeing other egg experiments and tricks!
