Petr Horacek

The children were very excited to meet a real author and illustrator Petr Horacek. Petr explained to the children how he writes his stories, by first drawing the pictures and then writing the words. The children enjoyed listening to his stories and they especially liked his use of pop ups in his books.

Year 2 were lucky to experience a workshop to create a book in his style. The children were asked to show in pictures a boy trying to push an elephant into a house and then what might happened next. The children had a wealth of ideas which included: the elephant might go to sleep in the boy's bed or be  hungry so it eats all the food in the house or it might want to take a bath.

The children followed Petr's example of using a collage technique to add a background first and then the rest of the picture. Some of the children were inspired to add a pop up to their pictures. Everyone enjoyed there time with Petr and could not wait to explain their stories to each other!
