Year 2 Week 2 Learning

We have had a lovely first full week back in Year 2. Take a look at what we have been up to this week.

Literacy

In literacy, we have been enjoying ´Lost and Found´ by Oliver Jeffers. This week, the children have been thinking about using adjectives. They created a role on the wall for the character of the penguin, thinking about adjectives to describe his appearance, personality and feelings. They then used these to write some great character descriptions!

Maths
In maths, we have been looking at arrays to support our learning on multiplication. We have been building arrays to match the multiplication sentences and using the vocabulary ´rows´ and ´columns´. Our hard work on this will way off next week when we continue building on our knowledge of multiplication.

Geography
In line with our focus text, it has been all things Antarctica in Year 2 (we are now all very much hoping for snow this year!). We have started our Antarctica fact files. First on the agenda was to design a front cover and create a penguin fact page. We were very engaged in the penguin videos and fact files we were using to help us to write some interesting facts. Remember! You will never see a polar bear with a penguin!

Science
Our ready, steady, grow topic was full steam ahead this week with our hydroponics. We learnt that hydroponics means growing in water and tried it for ourselves using beans and zip lock bags. We have proudly displayed them on our windows and will be observing them grow over the coming weeks.
