Year 2 Week 3 Learning

We have been very busy in Year 2 this week, here are some of the highlights of our week!

Literacy

This week in Literacy we have been learning about diaries. The children looked for the features of a diary including past tense, first person and adverbs of time. They then wrote plans for a diary of 'the best day at school'. Finally, they used their plans to write their diaries, considering all of the features they had learnt about during the course of the week.

Maths
In maths, the children have continued their work on addition and subtraction. WE have been concentrating on using column method to subtract 2 2-digit numbers. The children have worked hard to follow the steps to solve subtractions problems.

Steps to success
1. Put the problem into columns
2. Subtract the ones
3. Subtract the tens
4. Check your answer

History
In History we have continued our learning on The Great Fire of London. This week, we have been practicing our chronology skills, considering when the fire happened and understanding things that have happened between then and now. We added some of these important events to a timeline and had lots of great discussion about the differences between life then and life as we know it in 2021.

Science
Dead or alive? Is the question that we have been investigating over the past couple of weeks in science. We discussed what makes a living thing and how we can tell if something is dead, alive or has never been alive. We also went on a micro-habitat hunt where we found lots of different mini-beasts. We enjoyed using our microscopes to study them closely and think about why they live in the habitat that they do.

PSHE
In PSHE we started to look ahead to Christmas and what the meaning of Christmas really is. The children agreed that Christmas is a time for being with the people we love the most. We wrote letters to go in shoeboxes being sent to the elderly to cheer them up at Christmas time. The children were so thoughtful in explaining their favourite things about Christmas and asking questions.

Children in Need Day
We had lots of fun creating giant Pudsey bears for our class doors on Friday. Mulberry were very lucky as they won the KS1 Pudsey door competition!
